Summary

The past may seem the safest place to be 。 。 。 but it is the most dangerous time to be alive。 。 。 。

Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall were torn apart by the Jacobite Rising in 1743, and it took them twenty years to find each other again。 Now the American Revolution threatens to do the same。

It is 1779 and Claire and Jamie are at last reunited with their daughter, Brianna, her husband, Roger, and their children on Fraser’s Ridge。 Having the family together is a dream the Frasers had thought impossible。

Yet even in the North Carolina backcountry, the effects of war are being felt。 Tensions in the Colonies are great and local feelings run hot enough to boil Hell’s tea-kettle。 Jamie knows loyalties among his tenants are split and it won’t be long until the war is on his doorstep。

Brianna and Roger have their own worry: that the dangers that provoked their escape from the twentieth century might catch up to them。 Sometimes they question whether risking the perils of the 1700s—among them disease, starvation, and an impending war—was indeed the safer choice for their family。

Not so far away, young William Ransom is still coming to terms with the discovery of his true father’s identity—and thus his own—and Lord John Grey has reconciliations to make, and dangers to meet 。 。 。 on his son’s behalf, and his own。

Meanwhile, the Revolutionary War creeps ever closer to Fraser’s Ridge。 And with the family finally together, Jamie and Claire have more at stake than ever before。

Lovely read。 It doesn't move the story along as much as I had hoped for but。。。 still worthy of time。 Lovely read。 It doesn't move the story along as much as I had hoped for but。。。 still worthy of time。 。。。more

Engrossing as usual and i love this family and these characters but i was disappointed for so much set up and then the last few chapters are a rapid succession of unrelated events that then set up a big cliffhanger。 And now to wait 3+ years for the next book。

AudiobookAgain, I only hear this book (even when I'm physically reading it) in Davina Porter's voice。 I can always tell which person is speaking because her accents are so distinguishable。 I don't think I've ever not liked a book in this series。 Some were better than others but they were all excellent。 As long as the book was, I was still silently screaming "NOOOOO!" when it ended。 Claire is becoming more and more who she is supposed to be and Jaime again has to fight for his people。 Love the se AudiobookAgain, I only hear this book (even when I'm physically reading it) in Davina Porter's voice。 I can always tell which person is speaking because her accents are so distinguishable。 I don't think I've ever not liked a book in this series。 Some were better than others but they were all excellent。 As long as the book was, I was still silently screaming "NOOOOO!" when it ended。 Claire is becoming more and more who she is supposed to be and Jaime again has to fight for his people。 Love the series/book。 。。。more

I love this series。 I love Jamie and Claire; however, this book was tediously written and difficult to get through。 That being said, it ended pretty well and sets us up for another…which I’m sure I will read。

Left me wanting more, as there are now so many characters things get glossed over that wouldn't have been in previous books, but I love them all so much it doesn't matter。 Left me wanting more, as there are now so many characters things get glossed over that wouldn't have been in previous books, but I love them all so much it doesn't matter。 。。。more

Another great addition to the Outlander series。

BeesLike all of this series, this an excellent read。 I am a little puzzled by the abrupt conclusion。 I hope it means that we will continue to follow the story of Jamey and Claire。

I hope I don’t have to wait 7 years for #10。

Not too much really happened in this one, but I could pleasantly spend all my time on the ridge with the Frasers。

I love Diana Gabaldon and I am obviously fully committed to the Outlander series。 I waited 7 years for this release and can honestly say that I'm not disappointed! I felt more involved with the inner workings of the characters lives instead of watching all the action which made the experience feel more genuine。 Although there wasn't a huge plot, Diana did sprinkle in some drama through this 900 page monster of a book。 It was action packed, terrifying, and very emotional at times。The writing was absolutely beautiful for each character。 I really enjoyed Williams perspective in this book。 I wish we would have gotten a few chapters told from Jem and Mandy。 We learn something new about them towards the end of the book and it intrigued me! She did leave us on a few cliff hangers but I'm so excited for book #10! 5 stars! 。。。more

This book was highly anticipated however, IMHO the author should consider publishing/writing her books so that they are shorter and more frequent。 This book could have been 3 books easily。 I think it was too long。 Not that the story wasn't great (it always is! ), but for the first time with this series it just seemed too damn long! I actually thought it was going to be the last book so I figured that was the reason it was, or seemed to be, sooooo long。 And then it was over。 NOT。 By the time the This book was highly anticipated however, IMHO the author should consider publishing/writing her books so that they are shorter and more frequent。 This book could have been 3 books easily。 I think it was too long。 Not that the story wasn't great (it always is! ), but for the first time with this series it just seemed too damn long! This series, as with others, should have a synopsis of the previous book(s) in the beginning。 The family tree doesn't really do it。 。。。more

Phew。 The long-awaited volume finally arrives。 I found profound (at least to me) differences in this 9th novel of the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone。 1/ You know how a tv show recaps all that has gone before, just in case someone has jumped onto the show without benefit of having seen all previous episodes? Each previous ending is a crescendo cliffhanger, with the reader knowing there is so much coming in the next book。 This ending? Yeah, we have William arriving to enlist help to find Lord John。 That's it。 No intertwining, no depth of plot, no WOW。 Just - did a chapter get cut out of the end of the book? Did I receive a faulty copy?In praise of the book, some of the plot lines are really clever。 As usual, there are lots of them。All in all, a great read which again gives us more character development and action。 。。。more

I love this storyMy only complaint is 。。。 SO MUCH WILLIAM。 He is not my favorite, but Jamie and Claire own my heart。

I waited over two years for this next book in the Outlander series。 It was worth the wait。。。all 900 pages! The story just goes on and on for the Fraser family and all of their relatives and friends as history happens around them during the American Revolution。

Claire, Jaime and the rest of their very extended family returnsBrianna, Roger and their 2 children are back on Fraser’s Ridge。 William knows Jamie is his father and is not doing well coming to grips with it。 The war be the British and the continental Army is continuing。 A great addition to the saga。 Can’t wait for the next installment。

I was so excited to finally read this book but it did not knock my socks off。 The things that make the Outlander series amazing is missing like time travel (actually doing it not talking about it), the passion of Jamie and Claire, now they are just a normal married couple, the story of Brianna and Roger turned boring, even her medical emergencies were so so。 This book lacked almost all of that。 It touched on a few things but mostly it had so many people and story lines that led no where。 I have I was so excited to finally read this book but it did not knock my socks off。 The things that make the Outlander series amazing is missing like time travel (actually doing it not talking about it), the passion of Jamie and Claire, now they are just a normal married couple, the story of Brianna and Roger turned boring, even her medical emergencies were so so。 This book lacked almost all of that。 It touched on a few things but mostly it had so many people and story lines that led no where。 I have invested a lot of time in reading this series and I feel that maybe it’s time to finalize and be done。 The characters are great and I want the series to finish with them still being great。 。。。more

Very long read and ends with another cliffhanger! Not my favorite Outlander book but it does bring together old characters with some resolutions。 It seemed to have many short plots and lots of description of both Fraser's Ridge abd it's tenants。 Curiously I wonder about the "ether" portion of the Starz series。 This is the first mention of its use in the books as far as I can remember。 My question is did Diana write this book or the screenplay first?? We waited and we waited。 I even went back and read the previous 2 before starting it。 First time I've been disappointed in Gabaldon and I've been a rabid fan for about 27 years。 I'm really confused why it took so long unless she lost interest, which I certainly did in this book。 I'm sad。 We waited and we waited。 I even went back and read the previous 2 before starting it。 First time I've been disappointed in Gabaldon and I've been a rabid fan for about 27 years。 I'm really confused why it took so long unless she lost interest, which I certainly did in this book。 I'm sad。 。。。more

I liked the last book better than this one, but the whole series is great historical fiction。 I couldn’t even really say what major events happened in this one because most of it is in-between action。 Someone is always going on a trip。 Someone is in danger of dying。 Something gets burned。 I stay interested though。

Most of this book felt like fillers with no true storyline。 I enjoyed all other books in the Outlander series, but this one was by far my least favorite。 Looking forward to book 10!

I have loved this series for 25+ years - so with each new book, I hold my breath and hope it holds up。 And thankfully this one does。 Full of family and friends and intrigue and history and humor and sadness and everything that makes a Diana Gabaldon novel a Diana Gabaldon novel。

In general, I liked the story, as I did all the others。 I thought there were too many side stories for one book, with too many names that were similar。 At times, that made it confusing。 While there was a great deal of detail, sometimes, there wasn't enough。 I was left wondering how they made it from point A to point B, or how a situation was resolved。 Still many unanswered questions。 I hope we don't have to wait so long for the answers。。。。。 In general, I liked the story, as I did all the others。 I thought there were too many side stories for one book, with too many names that were similar。 At times, that made it confusing。 While there was a great deal of detail, sometimes, there wasn't enough。 I was left wondering how they made it from point A to point B, or how a situation was resolved。 Still many unanswered questions。 I hope we don't have to wait so long for the answers。。。。。 。。。more
